Hello Again!

In case you missed it, My name is Irma Varela, I am the face behind the lens, creator of Peanut Love Photography and your next photographer. I was born and raised in San Francisco, CA and relocated to the East Bay in 2001. I am happily married to my best friend and biggest supporter of my journey in photography, I don’t think I would be where I am today without his daily support. Together, we are raising our amazing son, daughter, 2 fur kids and living our version of happily ever after.

For as long as I can remember, I was always the girl with the camera, no matter where I was, who I was with or what I was doing… there was my camera in my hand, capturing all sorts of moments and creating memories. I knew that I had a passion for photography since I was a teenager, but I never really saw photography as my career, in fact, my original career path was law. However, life happened and I had to take a slightly different path but in the end, I couldn’t be more thankful because it has all taken me to where I am today, doing what I love while creating beautiful memories for my clients that will last a lifetime.

Why Peanut Love Photography?

Due to unfortunate reasons, we lost our home along with all of our belongings when I was about 8 years old and therefore, I have no memories of that precious time in my life nor do I have an idea what I looked like as a baby. I’ve always felt a certain way about the fact that I don’t have any pictures of myself as a baby or a young child. So for me, newborn photography goes deeper than creating a beautiful gallery for my clients, I want to make sure I create meaningful memories that will last a lifetime for your little one so they can pass those memories on to their loved ones for generations to come.

In September of 2016 I stumbled across the newborn photography genre on social media, and after landing on multiple newborn images, I was in love! I spent the prior 2 years capturing all sort of images while trying to figure out what my niche in photography was. I loved every single image I captured and processed throughout those 2 years, but nothing made me feel or fall in love like newborn photography. The love I have for photography and love for babies was the perfect match and right then and there I decided that this was my true north.

I attended my first in person newborn photography workshop in February of 2017 and it was one of the best decisions I could have ever made. I walked away from that workshop understanding that newborn safety and training was my first priority. I take newborn safety very seriously and since my first workshop, I have spent the last three years attending newborn safety workshops by some of the best newborn photographers in the world, completing online trainings and I was also an assistant to another newborn photographer in order to gain some real hands on training and experience. While my goal is to capture beautiful and timeless images for my clients, safety is my ultimate priority during all my photo sessions.

Why the name Peanut Love Photography?

Peanut Love Photography was born on April 11, 2017, after putting much thought and love into the name. Peanut is the nickname I have for one of my nephews, I’ve called him that since he was a little peanut in his mom's belly. Love is for the love I have for babies, and Photography… well, that explains itself :) So just like that, Peanut Love Photography was born and my journey began♥

I look forward in helping you tell your story while making your precious moments last a lifetime.
Talk to you soon!

 Testimonials

“Irma was very through with explaining how the session would play out. She took all necessary precautions for safety during the session as well. She was very personable while maintaining a professional work ethic.”

“Irma was so incredibly accommodating from our initial phone consultation all the way through the selection and ordering of our package and photos. She has also been so patient with me as I have taken several weeks to get back to her about my final selections!

Deciding to bring a photographer into our home during COVID-19 to handle our four-week old newborn was a difficult decision but one that I do not regret after the experience we had with Irma. Extremely professional, honest, and empathetic to our situation, Irma made us feel safe and confident in our decision to do a newborn photo shoot. She was thorough throughout our planning sessions, arrived on time, and spent many hours with us to ensure she got a solid portfolio of photos that we all wanted.

During her time with us, she was very careful about handling our baby--washing hands after transferring all her equipment into our home, sanitizing her hands after handling or switching out equipment, and always very gentle and maternal in swaddling and caring for our son.

I did not feel rushed or uneasy. Irma was masked the entire time and told us everything she was about to do before she did it. She also gave us breaks between outfits and time to breastfeed. She is very friendly and truly a lover of her craft and of her clients.

I am so grateful for her professionalism and compassion to us as new and COVID-19-concerned parents. We will have these beautiful photos forever and I am so glad I listened to my instinct to have this shoot with Irma during this time. Thank you Irma! You'll always be a part of our journey.”

“Our little one coming to term during a global pandemic presented us with challenges that we never could have planned for. So many of the typical interactions that we had taken for granted and which we thought would come with pregnancy and childbirth were off the table. The presence of family and friends whom we expected to be with us during the process was out of the question due to safety concerns for us and them. One of the things that remained important to us was to document the occasion with a newborn shoot.

My wife and I couldn't be happier with our Peanut Love experience. We have been extremely conscientious about safety during quarantine, so inviting a stranger into our home was not taken lightly. Irma came masked, equipped with an array of props and wardrobe. Her first order of business after unloading and setting up was washing her hands. She continued to use hand sanitizer after every wardrobe and set up change. We appreciated her fastidiousness and felt incredibly comfortable in her hands.

Irma is a great listener and communicator, which was evident in all our interactions. She was extraordinarily accommodating during the photo selection and editing process (my wife is very particular) as well as working out our final selections. She offers several packages and a la carte options that made it easy for us to get everything we were looking for. She has a great eye and the pictures are phenomenal!”

“This was going to be a review for both our maternity AND our newborn photoshoots with Irma/Peanut Love Photography. The package for both was very reasonable, and Irma and I were set to meet for my maternity shoot at around week 38 of my pregnancy. No, I didn't give birth earlier than expected. What happened instead was that the CA fires started burning, and the air quality was terrible for a little while. My photoshoot was scheduled during that little while.

A couple of days before our shoot, Irma texted me to check in about how I was feeling, and if I felt comfortable still doing an outdoor photoshoot given the poor air quality. Until she asked, I hadn't thought about it; it hadn't occurred to me that I could back out of this commitment without losing money on it. Irma's care for me made me pause and really think about what I needed to do; her care for me encouraged me to take care of myself and my baby. So I ended up canceling our session, and Irma happily put my deposit towards our newborn photoshoot. Right there, before we even met in person for a shoot, I already knew she was a true professional who cared about her clients, and had a good work ethic.

The newborn shoot proved I was right. Irma arrived right on time, with a car full of materials and props. I was super impressed by how caring she was with our baby. She wore a mask, washed her hands before the shoot, and used hand sanitizer before each time she repositioned our baby for the next pose. She had a baby shusher and a white noise machine on the whole time and spoke gently to our baby, explaining everything she was doing. Our baby felt very calm and very comfortable with Irma, and we got a ton of beautiful shots as a result of Irma's skills both with our baby and behind the camera.

In the planning stages and in the editing process alike, Irma was a great listener, and incredibly attentive and responsive to our requests. We are VERY happy with our newborn photos and highly recommend Peanut Love Photography!”

“Let me just start by saying, Irma is AMAZING! Newborn photos are tough for many reasons. Its a time in your life that you have A LOT going on. Things are new, scary, overwhelming, exhausting etc. To think about getting ready and having your picture taken may seem like to much to handle. Trust me, even though this was my second baby(second time doing newborn photos) I still had to reschedule and Irma was there to give me a pep talk and remind me about the magic newborn photos bring. Irma has a way about her that just makes you feel comfortable and also extremely comfortable with her swaddling, feeding, holding, and caring for your baby. She was super easy going and willing to work with us on so many levels. She spent so much time making sure every detail was perfect and made our session very unique and personalized for us. We love our photos and they will be treasured for a lifetime!!! Thank you Irma for capturing those memories and being so patient with our boys!!”

"Lovely studio, lots of super cute backgrounds and props. Irma is very sweet, down to earth and real easy to work with. We had a really great time during our session for my daughter turning one. I was a little worried that my short of attention span little girl was messing up her pics, but I was so excited to see the results and was a masterpiece! I would totally book another session with her again, definitely recommend!"

"If you need newborn photos taken for your little one, this is the place to go! Irma has so many props, backgrounds, and will even get something that matches your little ones nursery ! She's very patient, and great with kids. My daughter had fun helping, and my newborn wanted to stay up but Irma made it work . The photos came out amazing, and will be something sweet to show our little one when he's older."

"Irma was great to work with!! I scheduled our family photos for our Christmas cards and loved all of the photos. It was so difficult to choose only a few photos for the cards. She brought her own props, was flexible with outfit changes (even helped me change my 5year old while I changed), got great candids, and over all great to work with. I definitely plan on using her again in the future."

“Irma was great! She helped me take pictures for my upcoming graduation! Even though I did not have my cap and gown she worked with what I had! She made sure to capture my genuine smile and made me laugh multiple times during my shoot! She even gave me ideas beforehand so I could think of what I wanted to do! I highly recommend her!!
